About Kartrocket

Where the name comes from (2012-2017)

Kartrocket started around 2012 as a DIY online-store builder for Indian SMBs, built by a team called BigFoot Retail Solutions. Back then, getting a small Indian shop online meant wrestling with foreign platforms that assumed dollar pricing, foreign payment gateways and couriers that had never heard of a Tier-3 pincode. Kartrocket was one of the first to be built for how India actually sells.

Running that store builder taught the team the real bottleneck. Merchants could build a catalogue, but the moment an order came in, shipping fell apart - comparing couriers, generating labels, tracking, handling COD reconciliation and returns. So the team turned its attention there.

How that became Shiprocket

The same founders took the shipping problem head-on and built Shiprocket, which grew into India's largest e-commerce shipping platform - connecting sellers to a panel of couriers, 24,000+ serviceable pincodes, tracking, COD and returns from a single dashboard. Kartrocket the store builder stepped back while Shiprocket scaled.

That order of events matters. Most store builders bolt shipping on as an afterthought. We spent nearly a decade learning logistics first, which is why shipping inside Kartrocket today is not a plugin - it is Shiprocket, built in.

Why we relaunched in 2026

The old DIY builder still asked a lot of the merchant: describe your business, arrange sections, configure settings, fight the layout. For a busy shop owner or cook or salon owner, that is real friction. AI changed what is possible. So in 2026 we rebuilt Kartrocket from scratch as an chat-native business builder.

Now the work is a conversation. Tell it you run a saree shop in Surat, or a home bakery in Pune, or a two-chair salon in Indore, and a working storefront appears - catalogue, ₹ pricing, checkout, booking or enquiry flow, whatever your trade needs. You refine it by pointing and talking, not by learning software.

The one thing we refuse to break

An AI that can rewrite your whole website is powerful and, frankly, a little dangerous. So we drew a hard line. Checkout, payments and orders run on a locked commerce core that the AI physically cannot edit. A clumsy prompt can change your homepage, but it can never break the money path.

Every change is a saved version with one-click undo, and a broken section can never take down the entire site. You get the speed of AI without gambling your storefront on it.

What it costs, plainly

Building and publishing is free on your yourname.kartrocket.ai address, SSL included. There are no plugin fees or app-store charges. You pay only real pass-through costs: courier charges when you actually ship (at Shiprocket rates), payment-gateway fees on prepaid orders, and your own domain if you choose to connect one.

We would rather you spend on things that move goods than on software licences that sit idle.
